Casting Call: Sherlock Holmes by violetlily13 Casting Call: Sherlock Holmes by violetlily13
It was an idea of my father's that if anyone else was to get the role of Sherlock Holmes, it should be Hugh Laurie. :P

Made for a challenge at PC.

And his old friend Stephen Fry should get the role of Mycroft Holmes!
EclipseCanon Featured By Owner May 10, 2014
Stephen Fry was already Mycroft in 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows'.
Clockwork-Demons Featured By Owner May 9, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
He already played Holmes, as House.

My mum and I have the same idea. We're still waiting for it to happen!
7thEvaChild Featured By Owner Oct 7, 2012
Unfortunately its very true. Personally, in the movies, I say that Hugh Laurie would have been a much better choice over Robert Downey Jr. Look wise, its a better choice, and Laurie already has experience being a smart, overly confident problem solver who notices those small things that make the case.
Talmenar Featured By Owner Aug 29, 2012  Hobbyist Artist
he would be GOOD!! I never thought of that before..... WHOAH!!!! I can totally imagine that, too
Galaxy1001D Featured By Owner Aug 24, 2012
What's hilarious is that Robert Downey Jr.'s normal voice sounds like House and Hugh Laurie's normal voice sounds like Sherlock Holmes.
pirategaara Featured By Owner Aug 18, 2012
Is it okay if I feature your art if I credit you?
BlackSix Featured By Owner Jun 13, 2012
He already has it in the form of House. If you think about it.
locococo22 Featured By Owner Jun 1, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
OMG He was on fortysomething... Or house... unless... OuO THEY'RE THE SAME PERSON!!! wait: they are. *facepalm*

House is based Sherlock, who is(in part) based on Dr. Joseph Bell, who was the subject of the book House got for Christmas that Wilson made up a story involving House falling for a patient named Irene Adler in the episode "Joy to the World".

Did you know that Hughs' character DR House's address is 221B Baker street, same as Sherlock Holmes? someone on the show must have had the same thought as you and your Dad!
oromis95 Featured By Owner Feb 7, 2013  Hobbyist Artist
No, House M.D. is based on the stories of Sherlock Holmes
Whiskerwind Featured By Owner Feb 12, 2013
uh, yes - that's what i'm saying... i was pointing out that it was interesting that you and your dad felt a link between the two characters, and assumed you didn't know that it was intentionally based on Sherlock Holmes. You and your dads revelation that Laurie would be appropriate seems a bit pointless now that you've pointed out that you already knew he was basically playing a modernised Sherlock.
oromis95 Featured By Owner Feb 12, 2013  Hobbyist Artist
hey man, sorry, but I'm not the same guy you were talking to before.
Whiskerwind Featured By Owner Feb 14, 2013
Ok fine, so just remove the words "you and your dad" and the point still stands.

that doesn't surprise me

They do say that the character House was inspired by Sherlock ^^ The actor who plays House is also very awesome :D
Angel77777771 Featured By Owner Dec 18, 2011
If House were to team up with Holmes, they would be unstoppable!!
kuroi-nekochan Featured By Owner Mar 2, 2011
Dude, House IS Holmes.

Some people say that he already is a version of Sherlock, does he not live at 221b Baker Street (As House)?
Sunshine-tapir Featured By Owner Nov 23, 2010
Because they are both so cool.
Hexiva Featured By Owner Nov 5, 2010
I'm sorry, I know I'm supposed to think "House!" when I see Hugh Laurie, but I can't, and now I'm picturing Holmes as Bertie Wooster.

And he thinks he's solving the mysteries because he's so smart, but actually it's Watson doing the work.

Or Mrs. Hudson.

Jeneralissimus Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2010
Agreed. House M.D. is indeed based off of the Holmes stories.
wolfinmyheart Featured By Owner Sep 13, 2010  Hobbyist Artisan Crafter
It is. And the 2009 SH movie is kind of based off House md. If you watch closely, you'll discover some elements David Shore used in his series, like the "Admit it" scene at the funeral. Holmes does it in the alley when he gets that woman to 'read Watson's future'.
Jeneralissimus Featured By Owner Sep 13, 2010
He sure does! Brilliant.
sakuraXP Featured By Owner Aug 11, 2010
That would be awesome~!
After all... House is sort of = Sherlock~
but Robert did a good job too... I ironically like the fact that he made Sherlock seem funny rather than serious... '''^^
Though Hugh could also be Moriaty... >)

I do agree with you that if RDJ didn't get the role then Hugh Laurie should have, but I would have found it too much like House M.D for Dr House was based off of Sherlock Holmes.
I like how you did the picture though.
CharlestonSauce Featured By Owner Jun 20, 2010  Hobbyist General Artist
Hugh Laurie would make a badass Sherlock Holmes X3 I mean, I still love Downey and all, but come on Laurie is HOUSE!!
BleedLikeAGod Featured By Owner Jun 1, 2010
The 2010 movie may have well been an episode of House, anyway.
Seachriya Featured By Owner May 22, 2010  Hobbyist
Yay, for Hugh Laurie :D It would look cool if he was Watson as well 83
AstrophelandStella Featured By Owner May 7, 2010

Omg, that would be awesome.
HalfBloodAlchemist Featured By Owner Apr 12, 2010
You're right he would TOTALLY make an epic Sherlock Holmes!!!! *huggles Laurie*
moonlight1314 Featured By Owner Apr 11, 2010
You are so right, but right now he is a modern Sherlock. He might get Moriarty though... Oo
NiteOwl94 Featured By Owner Apr 7, 2010  Hobbyist Digital Artist
im glad im not the only one who thought this. Ralph Fiennes could do it too
amberwhite100 Featured By Owner Mar 17, 2010
this would be quite a contrast from when he played wooster in Jeeves and Wooster, although they did swap hugh and stephen's characters around a bit to see which one suited them better.
FowlHunter Featured By Owner Mar 8, 2010
Yes. Oh yes. Though I do think Downey Jnr did a great job of it.
KLM9 Featured By Owner Feb 18, 2010  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I never thought of it but now that you mention it, he would have been perfect for the role. :noes:
Flame-G102 Featured By Owner Feb 9, 2010  Student Traditional Artist
You know, his new show, "House" is basically a modern day Holmes, He is the most genius medical detective around, is antisocial, can tell things just by observing, and is a drug addict who cant stop taking meds for his painful leg.
in that one, his Watson is Wilson, who like Holmes, is his ONLY friend, and the only one who puts up with him.

Plus, the name "House" is a play on "Holmes. (because Hlomes = Homes! get it?)
jeni-stark Featured By Owner Feb 1, 2010  Student General Artist
Beautiful, beautiful, agreeable work. :D
Barbossamonkey Featured By Owner Jan 24, 2010
Hopefully they'll cast him for Moriarty instead. I can see him playing that role too! Either him or Mycroft!
